Many programmes at Unitec require students to write reflectively, for example: nursing students have to reflect on clinical practice; business students often have to describe their role in group work; and early childhood teacher trainees have to reflect on what happened during placement in a childcare centre.
Once you graduate and are in a professional role, reflective writing develops your capacity for lifelong learning. In fact, some professions, such as nursing and teaching, can require regular written reflections in order to advance professionally.
