Borrowing and Renewing Limits

Borrowing Limits

Renewals of loans

Your loans will be renewed automatically up to the maximum allowed period.

*Please note there are some restrictions on renewing items:

  • There is a maximum limit on how many times an item can be renewed. This limit is set out in Library Procedure regulations. See our Renewal limits and loan periods table for more information.
  • If the item has been requested by someone else the item will not be renewed. If any item is not renewed, you will be emailed 3 days before it is due and you must then return it.
  • A loan will not renew past 2 weeks after your final class.  All items must be returned at the end of study.

Items on short loan (course reserve) Loan periods for short loan items vary, including 2 hours,  24 hours and 3 days. They are specified on the item label. 2 hour loans can be renewed if the item has not been booked by another borrower.  24 hour loans and 3 day loans cannot usually be renewed.

Important notes:

  • *Some journals can only be read in the library. This is shown on the boxes and individual journals.
  • Your borrowed book/item will be automatically renewed 3 days before the due date, unless someone else has requested it or you’ve reached your renewal limit as set out above. If the item can’t be renewed, we will send you an email reminding you to return it.
  • Anyone owing more than $5 in fines or fees may be blocked from borrowing or renewing any further items. More about fines
