A Traumatic Brain Injury, or TBI, may be caused by external trauma such as a direct blow to the head, face, neck or anywhere on the body that results in force to the head creating nerve damage. A TBI may be mild, moderate or severe causing varying effects including changes in thinking, behaviour and personality.
How can I support learners with a Traumatic Brain Injury?
Be clear and concise in delivering instructions. Simple but direct
Limit visual distraction and excessive noise
Allow for regular breaks
Divide lessons and large projects into smaller sections
Allow for extensions
Exam accommodations - Reader/Writer, separate room and extra time are beneficial
Accept alternative options for handing in assignments and presentations
