What is ADHD?

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is a neurodevelopmental condition that is characterised by symptoms relating to attention, impulsivity and hyperactivity.

ADHD minds are like kaleidoscopes—constantly rearranging patterns. They dream big and think outside the box. When something captures their interest, an ADHD mind dives deep. It’s like having a mental spotlight that illuminates their passions.

In a formal educational setting, students with ADHD might have trouble with procrastination, focus and articulating their thoughts.

How can I support learners with ADHD challenges?

Every learner who has ADHD is different, and they will have very different ways of requiring support. Some of the ways your can support our learners is by:

  • Listening to what they need
  • Limiting distractions
  • Provide lecture slides in advance
  • Ensure freedom of movement in/out of the class environment
  • Don't overload with tasks
  • Encourage support of peers
  • Provide regular, timely feedback, so the student knows they are successfully completing tasks.
