What is ADHD?

ADHD (or Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) is a behavioral disorder causing individuals to be easily distracted, act without thinking and very active. There are a number of signs you can look for in learners such as:

  • Poor concentration and focus
  • Too much concentration and focus
  • Poor time keeping
  • Poor listening skills
  • Restlessness and trouble relaxing
  • Emotions can be hard to control

How can I support learners with ADHD challenges?

Every learner who has ADHD is different, and they will have very different ways of requiring support. Some of the ways your can support our learners is by:

  • Limiting distractions
  • Provide lots of feedback about their behaviour (both positive and negative)
  • Give lots of breaks
  • Ensure freedom of movement in/out of the class environment
  • Don't overload with tasks
  • Encourage support of peers
