    Yes you can put a URL link to the Database on Moodle to allow students to access the content.You may link direct to specifc pdfs inside the database.
  2. Can I make multiple print copies of content within this database such as journal articles or images? 
    Yes within the limits of the clause 3.b.(2) and (3) below
  3. Can I put a digital copy of content within this database on Moodle or other course related system requiring student login?
    Yes within the limits of the clause 3.b.(5) below
  4. Inter-library loan permitted?
    Yes - see s.53 of Copyright Act 1994 and clause 3.b.(6) below
  5. Can I use genAI with this database?
    Yes within the scope of clause 5 below

IEEE ONLINE PRODUCTS AGREEMENT (Academic) - initiated 1 March 2025

Clause 3.b. Authorized Uses. Licensee and its Authorized Users may access and use the Licensed Products only for scholarly and research purposes and only as follows: (1) access, search, browse and view the Licensed Products; (2) download and print individual Articles and make a reasonable number of photocopies of a printed Article; (3) print a reasonable number of pages from an eBook and make a reasonable number of photocopies of those printed pages; (4) forward links to individual Articles and eBooks to Authorized Users; (5) post up to twenty-five (25) Articles or eBooks per semester, per course in PDF or HTML format for the purposes of electronic course reserves on Licensee’s internal, secured computer network accessible only to Authorized Users; (6) as part of the practice commonly known as “interlibrary loan,” deliver a reasonable number of copies of Articles (including through use of Ariel or a substantially similar interlibrary loan transmission software) to fulfill requests from non-commercial, academic libraries provided, however, that such practice: (i) complies with Section 108 of the U.S. Copyright Act and the guidelines developed by the National Commission on New Technological Uses of Copyrighted Works (CONTU Guidelines); (ii) does not result in systematic reproduction of the Licensed Products, any journal or issue of a journal, any Article, or any portion of the foregoing; and (iii) must not be used for any IEEE Standards; and (7) perform and engage in TDM provided that Licensee notifies IEEE prior to performance or engagement of each TDM activity or operation. Licensee and IEEE will mutually determine how Licensee and its Authorized Users may access and use the Licensed Products to perform or engage in TDM. Licensee and its Authorized Users may make available or share and/or utilize TDM Output so long as the results are not used for commercial purposes or to substitute the Licensed Products

5. Artificial Intelligence. 
Artificial Intelligence (AI) Usage Restrictions 
(a) Prohibited Uses: Unless specifically permitted by this agreement or in writing by IEEE, Licensee may not, and shall take all necessary steps to notify its Authorized Users that they may not, use the Licensed Products in combination with AI tools to: 
1) Create AI tools or output that can substitute and/or replicate any IEEE product, service and/or solution including, but not limited to, IEEE Xplore; 
2) Disrupt the functionality of the Licensed Products or any IEEE platform; 
3) Create derivative works (e.g., summaries, taxonomies, etc.) from the Licensed Content that are turned into products or made publicly available; or 
4) Distribute, publish, reproduce, or post the Licensed Content or derivative works (e.g., AI outputs generated from the Licensed Products) to unauthorized third parties. However, brief quotations for purposes of comment, criticism or similar scholarly purposes are permitted. 
(b) Permitted Uses: 
1) AI tools must be used solely for non-commercial academic or research purposes. 
2) AI tools must operate in a local or closed hosted environment accessible only to the Licensee or Authorized User and may not be removed from such local or closed hosted environment or utilized for any other purpose. 
3) Licensee and Authorized Users may upload, transmit, or provide a reasonable number of documents from the Licensed Content to an AI tool for summarization purposes, provided that the AI tool does not use the Licensed Content as part of its training set. For the avoidance of doubt, IEEE expressly prohibits use of the Licensed Content for developing or training AI tools and further prohibits the storage or retention of the Licensed Content within any AI tool. 
(c) Security Standards & Evolving Laws: 
1) AI tools may not be used without implementing reasonable information security standards to undertake, mount, load, or integrate the Licensed Products on Licensee’s or Authorized Users’ servers or equipment. 
2) The parties acknowledge the ongoing evolution of AI technologies and their implications in educational, academic, research, and scholarly contexts, and agree to engage in good faith negotiations concerning this section as legal clarity on AI develops.
